Hmong Music Festival 2017

The HMF or Hmong Music Festival happens once a year since 2012 when it was first showcased.  This event brings Hmong people from different communities all over the world together in one spot for an enjoyable, fun, and cultured event.

The idea of attending HMF was last minute for me.  It was not until noon that I decided to tag along with my cousin and her wonderful boyfriend who visited from Michigan.  I knew attending this event would help me connect to my community more which is something I have been doing in the past year.

Since it was last minute, I was not aware of all the different mini events/vendors going on at the HMF.  The Fresno Fair Grounds is where the HMF was held at.  Inside, there were the typical vendors selling raffles, selling clothes, food, and jewelry.  I arrived at 2 in the afternoon and spent two hours at the food court area.  Later, I found out there was an area where a fashion show was being held.  By the time I got to the area, the fashion show was over.  I spotted some of the models and was able to snap a photo of a few of them.  Each gown was designed by different Hmong designers.  For more information go to https://www.revivedorg.org/about.

Wonton Tacos
If you have not had these before you should really give it a try.  I smashed and mixed all the tacos together and ate it like a salad.

Before the show began at 6 there were a stage for open mic and open performance.  Here are two of the short clips I recorded below.

H&M Haul

When it comes to shopping for clothes, I spend the majority of my time browsing online at Asian clothing influenced websites.  The one I shop the most at is  Yesstyle.com  since it carries a variety of clothing I see from my Korean Dramas.  During a local Farmer's Market, I sneaked into H&M to cool down from the heat outdoors and that was when I saw the clothing pieces I have been obsessing over: Ruffles!  I purchased 6 tops circulating the idea of ruffles. Piece 1: This first top is a plain white ruffle collar with coordinating ruffle sleeves.  It is simple and can be layered with trench coats or vests.  You can even add a sweater over the top during colder seasons.  P.s.  I accidentally deleted the photo of me modeling the shirt.  Piece 2: This top is a transparent and breezy.  I am in love with the detailing of the ruffles on the sleeves.  It is shorter and cuts in a V-shape. ...

Bleaching Eyebrows

Hello Everyone! Welcome back to ghaneethebugblog.blogspot.com!  A little over a week ago, I colored my hair red/orange/brown as an inpsiration from Hyuna's new song she's featured in called 365 So Fresh by Triple H.  The problem with coloring my hair so much is matching my eyebrows to the new hair color.  I went into Sephora and consulted with one of the makeup artist on how to get eyebrows like Hyuna.  It's soft and light and is an iconic eyebrow style K-Pop artists' have.   Hyuna Traditional Korean eyebrows (Picture taken from a Google search) The makeup artist suggested for me to by an eyebrow bleach kit to lighten the hairs on my eyebrows.  That would be the only way to achieve the light eyebrows.  I already had bleach and developer at home, so I mixed a equal amount of portions together.  You do not need a lot.  I had only mixed a little and had enough for four or five pairs of eyebrows. 10 Volume developer w...

Fresno Hmong International New Year and more!

I wish I had taken more photos of the booths in the Fresno Hmong International New Year to share with you guys!  This is my outfit I bought this year for the Hmong New Year.  It is a variation of the Chinese style Hmong outfits.  The Chinese style is typically designed with strings of beads versus silver money.  Their hats usually matches with the color of the outfit, however when I bought mine it did not come with the hat nor the matching skirt.  The vendor I bought it from assured me that it would be fine with the stunning silver hat and white skirt, and she was not wrong!   Here is the second outfit I wore this year.  My cousin and I are sporting two similar yet very different Thai outfit.  Hers have a more braided clothe covering her shoulder with a set of gold beads.  Mine is simply laced beaded with small gold beads.  I had worn the outfit in a previous year with my hair down.  This year I changed it up and decided to ...
